Prostitutionalization

Disclaimer
The below mentioned FACT is just MY opinion documented and any resemblance to something you have seen or heard off, is purely intentional!!!

With International Women's Day being celebrated this month, there would be scores and scores of activities abuzz across the nation by various political affiliates and corporates as well as news articles, shopping offers and what not in the name of supporting, appreciating and celebrating womanhood. At this timely juncture I felt it would be apt to highlight a different genre of how women are "celebrated" if not on Women's Day but throughout the year at various societal, economic, cultural, regional levels and that brings us to categorical classification of women as prostitutes.

WHAT THE HELL?
Yes you read it right, women in our country are indeed represented, branded, classified and that act is what I would like to call as prostitutionalization.

WHY SO?
Well, those who could not understand of why such a terminology in first place, are those who are ignorant of such a thing either by chance or by compulsively minded practice to not accept that fact openly and maybe just be furiously judgmental already, at such an audacious representation.

I AM READY TO HEAR THE HOW PART...
Just to fine tune your focus on the precise direction of representation of this fact and also for the benefit of the ones who are new to this term, prostitutes are the one who do the obvious stuff (First part) for Money (Second Part) wherein the motive "For the second part" elevates a woman to be termed as a prostitute. BUT the people, in our country at large do not stick to the dictionary definitions and instead make do with their own representations and branding to give that COVETED title to women (in raw plain English, with a lot of colloquial and expletive synonyms and derivatives indicting the same) either with a precognitive mindset or "From the experience of the number of women I have seen, known and heard off" mindset. This "make do representative mindset of people" about women is THE CRUX of my HOW part.

  • The most common form of such a classification happens during angry outbursts by men (usually) and women (these days) in calling men and women as Son of B****s (SoBs) and B****s respectively in any and all possible languages they are familiar with and there is no validation or reasoning of such derogatory statements. Many are so very fluent in making such statements that they're mentally numb to notice who and what they are referring to.
  • Its surprisingly saddening that these judgments are passed on girls even at school level when they are found talking with lot of boys and a lot sooner if the boys are not from the same class or age group or if people could not arrive at some logical connect behind a girl's such an action and the same stands good and even "better" in college life.
  • An outspoken and broadminded woman in a Corporate is regarded, subtly branded "approachable" right away.
  • Actresses, be it Television or Cinema, Personal Secretaries, Models, Air-Hostesses, Housekeeping staff, Hotel Management industry people, those working under many of the verticals that are a subset of "Media" industry and a lot more fields where the glamor plays a predominant role, the women are mostly Character Assassinated (CAed) by default and retrospectively classified.
  • Divorcees , spinsters and widows come under another larger section of women who are "talked with" and "talked about" on such similar coveted lines.
  • And finally AIDS suffering / ailing women are looked upon and CAed yet again based on these presumptive mindsets.
As long as prostitution exists in one's thought as a feminine phenomenon and people do not deal with such "nobel" minded themselves or the ones they know, prostitutionalization will never cease to exist but will only grow stronger in its own subtler manner...!!!

The Great Indian Barterers

The Barter system has been something that has been existent in the period prior to the thoughts and ideas of using money. Practices changed with the course of evolution however we Indians have still stuck onto the Barter trade in a variety of aspects of course with loads of reasons nonetheless and have given up a lot of  "pridefully ours" for things that may not be truly worth it...

  • Cheap labor and remunerations FOR Indian Brains.
  • Comparatively high paying outsourced good for nothing jobs FOR possibly challenging local jobs.
  • Gymnasiums and Health SPAs FOR Yoga and Meditation.
  • KFCs, McDs and Pizza Houses FOR கை ஏந்தி பவன்ஸ், Indian cuisine restaurants and dhabas.
  • Traditional relationship oriented Indian marriages TO sex and convenience oriented to-be-named relationships.
  • Natural nutrient-rich home made or country made hair supplements TO the likes of L'Oreals and Garniers.
  • Beverages like Coke, Pepsi & Co FOR the elixir called water.
  • The safety of Indians in the name the Nuclear Liability Bill.
  • The age old traditional Kamasutra TO you know what.
  • The well nurtured laziness in our blood succumbing TO punctuality, deadlines and quality policies.
  • From the various Indian English accents TO various English accents to the Indian languages.
  • The Western lazy seats instead of the "Indian" styled muscle flexing exercisable toilets.
  • Nike, Reebok, Adidas brands of clothes and accessories instead of the lesser known actual exporter brands from India.
...and those above are just a shred of a whole lot of stuff that we Indians have bartered/are bartering/will barter FOR!!!

Unasked Reservations

Reservations in India has been existent for more than half a century now. It was then, the need of the hour, to close the gap on discrimination. Throughout the tenure of existence it has for sure made a lot of impact on the lives of almost every Indian, be it good or bad. Some of its notable impacts are as follows...
  • It has given way for the people from the backward classes (which was also the economically backward class, when this was introduced) an equal chance to be able to pursue education at esteemed institutions as well as be able to get reserved opportunities to have a shot at the employment prospects at all Government  and PSU establishments.
  • It has been a very effective political tool to win elections since then, till date.
  • It has failed to completely bridge the discrimination on the people's mind but has been aiding communal clashes both big and petty.
  • It has made any government employee reap benefits (everything or nothing) resulting in a divided mindset on this concept.
  • This has paved way for a few truly potential individuals and many incompetent individuals to rise to higher levels in the organizational ladder.
  • With bribery and falsehood at ease, another very important impact is that countless people have doctored their caste identity to fall under one of the backward castes to harness its benefits.
It's certain that a politician will neither raise a voice to, if not abolish but even alter the reservation rules based on the present needs nor will he allow any other person who may try to do that, be heard. Also they (The Politicians) have already started looking at roping in other MNC based employment sectors to abide by these reservation rules as well, to boost up their political presence

Since the idea of reservation was started for the equality of opportunities in education and employment. There has been a few other sectors which hasn't been incorporated into this system for a long time and I would like to throw some light in that direction.

In Politics

  • Why not the 825 (280 in RS & 545 in LS) seats in the parliament be apportioned and alloted based on the reservation quota rules?
  • Why not every state election strictly abide by the reservation rules. E.g in Tamil Nadu the 234 legislative seats must constitute the combination of all castes summing upto the total count of 234?
  • Another option for the previous one, every political party should choose their candidates with the mix of people, applying the reservation quota rules.
  • The elections at reserved constituencies must be contested by the those of that caste only.
  • During the vote counting in a constituency where the a BC candidate of a party and SC candidate of another party are contesting, the SC candidate should be given more preference even if lesser number of people have voted for him.
In Sports
  • The playing team in every sport should be according to reservation quota policies for whichever level of participation, be it school, college, state or even representing India.
  • If it's an individual sport, matches should take place between players of different castes, wherein the winner will represent the State or Nation in that sport. However the winning rules are different for different castes. For eg in a five game encounter, the upper caste has to win all 5 to move on further however the SC/ST are through to the next round even if they win just one game.
  • In the IPL, every team MUST consist of at-least one of OC/BC/MBC/OBC/SC/ST. Also the at least TWO foreign players MUST have valid caste certificate belonging to any one these.
In Entertainment
  • How about the lead role casts be chosen on caste based reservations? Why do they need to pick the cast and crew based on their skill, beauty or talent?
  • The screening or the auditioning process MUST have the caste based preferences as the   entry criterion.
  • Why to spare the beauty pageant shows from these rules?
  • The reality / talent shows should not eliminate people even if they are voted out, if that person belongs to any of MBC/SC/ST.
Whatever that is age old, needs restoration and renovation and the Reservation policies are no exemptions. It's high time that either the bureaucrats and the politicians woke up and wear their thinking hats for the true progress of the nation or make the nation uniformly go down the drain on all fronts (like the few which has been suggested above) so that there is no discrimination (which is the core mantra of the reservation policies).

Western We - Part II

...continued from Part I

What we have learned from the Western World
  1. The moment we're adolescent, we "expect" ourselves to be treated on par by our parents and others, in opinions, decision making, being independent etc.
  2. To deal with terrorism we've set up the NIA ( National Investigation Agency), supposedly the dubbed Indian version of the FBI.
  3. We appreciate The Academy Award as the best recognition a movie can get, be it in any language, in the world.
  4. Being a part of one of the hundreds of BPOs and KPOs around in our country, we would've definitely come to know  about how "wise" are the western customers and how we shouldn't be, the next time WE make a call for support, as a customer.

What we have failed to learn from the Western World
  1. However adolescents in the western world groom themselves to be economically  self-reliant to a certain extent at the least and "make" themselves eligible for such on-par treatments.
  2. Yet there isn't any agency or force in our country that is mandated to work and make decisions without the political intervention.
  3. Understand that The Academy Award is an appreciation for a movie based on their set of likes and guidelines, expectations and feelings however our National Award is the one for an Indian movie which is adjudged by a jury who understands our genre. No clue  how people here as well as the Academy Award jury felt that the music was so worth-it in  Slumdog Millionaire that was NOT in Lagaan.
  4. We, at the BPO or KPO industry are not given a job for what's up there inside the skull but just that we're a cheap alternative to a fellow Westerner in terms of cost and we may end up losing it if the few "real wise" Westerners finds an even more cheaper alternative.
If it so has been the tradition that we've have seen, yearned for, adopted or even worshiped the numerous unlisted cues ONLY from the western world, be it good or bad, we also need to think about and realize how much and what good have WE been of an impact as a Western country (apart from being geographically) to all those countries that are to the east of us.

Western We - Part I

The impact of the western world on our country and people has been slow and steady but gradually on the ever increasing trend only. The impact has been very diverse on various fields with the likes of IT/ITES, Fashion, Entertainment, Marketing, Business Model,Life-style,  Health, Culture, Beliefs, Food, Tourism, Terrorism, etc.

As a summation of those above, here are certain aspects which broadly fall under
  1. What we have learned from the Western World
  2. What we have failed to learn from the Western World
It has been categorized as comparative one and hence would make a lot of sense to go further  in such a similar manner i.e 1 vs 1... 2 vs 2 etc.

What we have learned from the Western World
  1. The easily noticeable and foremost thing is their english accent or slang or however one can term it and we have started to accept that as the standard and acceptable way to speak that language.
  2. Take the camera and shoot millions of photographs and videos of the numerous places we visit, and share with our friends and family as well as on social networking sites like FB, Orkut etc.
  3. Try out their beachwear on ourselves and  enjoy the sensual freedom as well.
  4. Wear, consume or use foreign brands and pay little or no heed to our local brand equivalents.
  5. Their style, fashion and etiquettes, and we have westernized our Indian practices on these wherever possible.
What we have failed to learn from the Western World
  1. Their interest and awe to learn other languages but NEVER forgo or disregard theirs as the primary language.
  2. Do the same thing however with a lot more sense and  idealize a story out of it and make the people around the world know about it using platforms like NGC, Discovery etc.
  3. Their mindset to look at people in beachwear with no difference and don't give a damn for what we are wearing (at least in most cases) however here it varies from curses to blunt stares and from intimidation to assault.
  4. Promote the local brands onto the global platform as well as take the cue from them on their idea of importing the processed goods from us, adding their brand label on them and selling it back to us.
  5. Learn and try out other fashion, style or etiquettes from elsewhere and make a separate business case out of it and make profits but rather not fiddle and dilute their as such existing practices.
to be continued...
