 unknown to the medical world.

Successes or failures fetch me my due credits.

Being apple of their eyes

some call me blessed

while to some others I am the oppressed.

Neither I care for the lewd tag.

Nor do I take credits for being the spine.

to the Bronze age

but 

I ain't a metal.

Martial arts, military forces & machines 

have me in common.

To the desperate & insane 

I gave the power to liberate souls

however

I've been very supportive to the rest 

who has sought my help.

I amuse even magicians

At times of chaos & protests

I come real handy.

The commoners are in dire need

while experts

try to find alternatives to me.

I remain a challenge to a fraternity,

for years together now.

consider me as a prideful possession.

I am their child.

Some are secretive while some others are open

but most of them are solely lucrative about me.

My by-birth "efficiency" fuels the GDP of some nations.

Animals use me to very limited levels

while man harnessed me to the fullest, with his creativity.

nor do I seek your help,

but we're made for each other, forever.

Who Am I?

         Its a series of riddles, to tickle and harness your mind and possibly extract answers out of it. The entire series would consist of individual riddles aimed at boiling down to a specific answer.
